KINDERGARTEN HUNTING (16/1/2007)It's been a while since my blog was last updated. I've been aching to talk about my "brilliantly colourful life" (yeah right!), but my blog-typist (aka Mommy) wasn't the least bit cooperative. *sigh*
So how does it feel to be 2? Well, I'm a lot more mobile these days. I love to run really fast, jump up and down, pretend I'm in "Emily's Dance Class", and climb up anything I can get my hands on (e.g. grills for the window, chairs, etc), terrorising my grandparents, parents, Lis and Ipa. They say I'm in my "Terrible 2" phase. Whatever that may mean. What's so terrible about a little exercise?
Aside from that, I'm almost free from that uncomfortable thing called a diaper. Most times, I'll let people know when I need the loo, barring a few "accidents". Got too excited about something and inadvertently let go! *Oops*
At the start of this brand new year, I started classes at Growing Up Gifted (GUG), a change of environment from Shichida School. Lis accompanies me to classes, and it's been really fun so far. We get to mess around with paint and use vegetables like potatoes and carrots to make really cool paintings! The classes are nowhere as intense as Shichida class, so Lis has been telling my mom that she's wasting her money because GUG is "play, play, play only". Mommy asked me what I thought and I said with a serious look on my face: "Shichida is so ......quiet." I hope Mommy doesn't listen to Lis!
The time has come for Mommy to hunt for a kindergarten for me. GUG runs a kindergarten as well, and it seems like a natural progression for me to go there, since I'm already attending enrichment classes there, but it's really kindda odd to attend kindergarten in a shopping centre! The school's outdoor area is right by the main road, which means we'll probably get minimal playtime outdoors.
Yesterday, my parents and Gong Gong drove around the neighbourhood to see if there're more kindergartens nearby. They discovered Gracefield Kindergarten along Gilstead Road (but it was closed when we drove past at 5 pm) and Pat's Schoolhouse at Buckley Road. It's an old bungalow with a playground and sandpit. Everything looks really dated at that school, but Mommy liked the enthusiasm of Teacher Michelle. She's full of energy and Mommy liked the way she talked to and handled the kids. Currently, the nursery class has 9 kids who're 2 years old, going on 3.
Next, we visited Learning Vision along Gentle Road. The gate was wide open (leading out to a somewhat busy road), the maindoor had handles which were within easy reach of kids and kids were walking in and out without any supervision. My parents frowned. They couldn't find anyone who could help them, so Daddy spoke to a parent who'd come to pick up his daughter. He said that the school was "ok, but my daughter keeps getting sick". Didn't sound too positive.
We continued driving and saw a Little Woods Montessori along Gentle Road. The school was closed, so we made our way to Barker Road Methodist Church Kindergarten. The building was new-ish and it had full facilities. It was impressive, but it was closed when we visited so we couldn't speak to anyone. Gong Gong and Daddy liked this kindergarten, but Mommy felt it would probably turn out to be a regimental place. On the floor was a bright red line dividing the path up and down, with numerous signs pasted all over the walls that exclaimed "Keep Right", "Keep Left", blah blah. Registration for 2008 starts in April, so my parents still have time to drive around the neighbourhood some more...
Here're some pictures of me at Shichida class:-
