LAZARUS ISLAND (23 & 27 SEPTEMBER 2009)

School ended with a nice surprise on 23 September 2009. Daddy picked me up from school, and when the door to his mini-bus glided open, Mommy, Ah Gong, Ning Che Che and Su Ann were all on board with my beachwear, sand bucket and lunch of chicken nuggets and fries. Daddy was taking all of us to Lazarus Island, an island just a few minutes' boat ride away from Sentosa.

The trip started with Daddy taking us for a quick survey of the luxurious waterfront homes at Sentosa Cove. People with money to burn had thrown millions into small, 99-year leasehold plots for their weekend homes. The development reminded us of the waterfront homes we'd seen in June 2009 in the Gold Coast.

Oopsii was waiting for us at One Degree 15. She was all ready to take us to the beach. We climbed on board for the short, but choppy, ride to Lazarus Island.
My eyes glistened at the sight of the stunning white sand beach fringed by coconut trees. The sand was soft and powdery. The seawater was warm, calm and blue. None of us thought a beach paradise like this could be found in Singapore waters, but we were wrong.

We arrived on a weekday afternoon, and the island was desserted. Ning Che Che, Su Ann and I busied ourselves with our sand buckets and spades, whilst Ah Gong, Daddy and Mommy explored the island on foot.

We spent a relaxing afternoon at the beach, and Daddy promised to take us back again with my friends.

On 27 September 2009, we returned to Lazarus Island with Gwen's family. It was a Sunday so the island wasn't quite as desserted, but we still managed to have a whole stretch of the beach to ourselves.

Gwen's older brother, Enzo, tried to catch fish with a net, but didn't catch anything other than a tiny hermit crab.

Gwen and I enjoyed swimming in the sea with Daddy and Su Ann.

The lil' beach bum liked the beach so much that she planted herself on the sand and refused to budge even during milk time.

We had an awesome time at the beach!
