FIELD TRIP TO PASIR RIS KIDS' KAMPONG (3 DECEMBER 2008)

It was nearing our year-end school break, and GUG had organized a final field trip for us to visit Pasir Ris Kids' Kampong (http://www.prkidskampong.com/) on 3 December. The field trip was full of new experiences for me, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

My classmate, Yong Shing, was my partner for the trip. Gwen was absent from school that day. We were taken by coach to the farm.

At the farm, we were shown white mice, a grey rabbit and ducks. We were given pellets to feed the kois, and we tried our hand at "longkang fishing". I caught a grand total of one guppy, and Yong Shing's mom helped me scoop up a whole bunch more. My catch was placed in a plastic bag of water and handed to me as a parting gift.

Mommy was a little shocked to see me return home with a bag filled with fishes. We didn't have a tank, pump and the works at home, and were unprepared to adopt the fishes. Ah Gong wanted me to keep the fishes to learn about the life cycle of fishes, but Mommy thought it was a better idea to release them into a freshwater pond. The thought of imprisoning fishes in the narrow confines of a tank has always irked Mommy, so she got Daddy to take them to a pond. I got to keep my pets for a whole hour, before kissing them goodbye. Hope they're doing ok wherever they may be.
